Oud Oil Oud Wood

Why is Oud oil from Jalali Agarwood so expensive?

Oud oil is a precious resource, incredibly rare and found in only a few areas of the world, commonly known as ‘liquid gold’. Not all Oud is created equal however and there can be huge differences in the calibre of Oud from different regions of the world.

The origins of Oud oil are not fully known, but it has long been admired by ancient kings and wealthy merchants, recognised for its unique value which can still be appreciated today.

Oud production itself is thought to have originated in South Asia, in the lands bordering the forests of Sylhet. The Oud oil produced in Sylhet follows a lineage which can be traced back for thousands of years.

Over time the production and distillation of Oud has developed along with new techniques and improvements. However, the key process of distilling Oud has remained the preserve of only the finest Oud producers – of which Jalali Agarwood are at the pinnacle.

Investing in Community & Values

In the modern era Oud is cultivated across the span of the Indian Subcontinent and further abroad including Malaysia and Cambodia. Each different region has its own unique micro-climate and production method.

At Jalali Agarwood our approach is highly authentic and our community of distillers and workers have been involved in Oud cultivation for generations.

For over 400 years we the House of Jalali have created Oud concotions of truly sublime quality and value. This is why Jalali Agarwood is the premier name in the world of Oud. How can we maintain such a high level of Oud quality? The answer is our workers who we prize above all else.

The core of the Jalali Agarwood business is our community – helping in every step of Oud production. It is this reason that the Oud we produce is on another level when compared to cheaper synthetic alternatives.

A rare resource which needs care

Oud oil is derived from the Aquilaria tree and in todays world of ecological change we consider ourselves to be custodians of this natural resource.

Whereas other forms of Oud use different components of wood, or artificially grown tress, we use pristine, natural wood from Sylhet. Without question this ensures our Oud has a character and fragrance unlike any other.

In the world of Agribusiness however, ensuring a steady supply of healthy Agarwood trees cannot be taken for granted. Our method of Oud cultivation is to handpick trees which we believe will not adversely affect the local environment.

By taking extra care of our natural resources – which include water, soil and air – we can produce a superior product that will be truly appreciated for its unique properties.

Preserving our history

We feel what sets us apart as a business in the world of Oud production is our close ties with our history. For over six generations we have tuned our processes and ways of working to ensure a highly skilled workforce who demand excellence.
